Gardai in Longford have confirmed they arrested a woman this morning in relation to an ongoing investigation at a care home in Co Longford

The woman - who is in her late 30's - is currently being detained under section 4 of Criminal Justice Act.

The HSE has confirmed it commenced an investigation "following recent complaints relating to an Intellectual Disability unit in Co. Longford."

A statement from the HSE said:

"The appropriate statutory authorities have been notified, and investigations are ongoing. 

"The HSE has been in contact with and is supporting the clients affected and with their families. 

"The HSE has ensured that all protective measures to ensure the welfare of our clients and residents are in place, and until investigations are complete into the alleged incident/s, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment."
