The break-in happened on Fortfield Road in Terenure when four masked men attacked the homeowner who's in his 60s.

They fled when the man's wife returned home, but gardai responding to the alarm stopped a red van near the scene.

One man was arrested, and he can be held for questioning for up to 7 days.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who saw anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in touch.
