While it may not have the political punch of Banksy’s world-famous street art, anonymous artist Mobstr’s year-long battle with a local council in the UK shows the funny side of bureaucracy and graffiti in an escalating series of one-upmanship on an otherwise ordinary brick wall.

Over on his or her website, Mobstr “documents images of work found on streets and other locations by persons unknown.”

Introducing the series below, Mobstr explains that a bicycle ride past the building every day for years triggered the concept. “"I noticed that graffiti painted within the red area was "buffed" with red paint. However, graffiti outside of the red area would be removed via pressure washing. This prompted the start of an experiment. Unlike other works, I was very uncertain as to what results it would yield. Below is what transpired over the course of a year."
