The funeral of Kenneth O’Brien has heard that his death 'offends our common humanity'.

The 33-year-old is being laid to rest today, more than two weeks after the discovery of his remains in Co Kildare.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Matthew’s Church in Ballyfermot in Dublin this morning to remember Mr O’Brien.

His partner Elaine was among the pallbearers and chief mourners at the funeral of the young father.

The remains of Mr O’Brien were discovered at separate locations in Kildare some two weeks ago, and a garda investigation continues into his brutal murder.

Fr Joe McDonald asked mourners to remember the 33-year-old by his life, rather than his cruel death.

He said that death offends our basic common humanity, and goes against the belief that every life is sacred.

In a letter read on behalf of his father Gerry, Kenneth was remembered as intelligent, handsome and loving, and while the circumstances of his death were more than any family should bear, the O’Brien family praised the huge support they have received.

Mr O’Brien is survived by his partner Elaine, son Charlie, parents, siblings and grandparents.

He is being laid to rest this afternoon at Newlands Cross Cemetery.
