Two acquantances of the late model, Katy French have been given suspended sentences following the death of the 24-year-old.

43-year-old Kieron Ducie of Lambertstown Manor, Kilmessan, Co. Meath, and 32-year-old Ann Corcoran of Tolka Road, Clonliffe Road were given suspended sentences today for procuring another man to possess drugs.

The French family said they were "saddened and angered" at the sentencing, which brings to an end 5 years of legal proceedings.

The Judge was told Kieron Ducie and Anne Corcoran contaced a drug dealer to facilitate the late model to buy €200 of cocaine on the way to their Meath home, where she later collapsed.

The Court heard the pair heard a bang from the room where Katy French was sleeping and found the 24-year-old lying face down beside bed, bouncing up and down off the ground.

An hour and a half later they brought the model to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan, and denied seeing her taking drugs earlier in the night.

Pair acted as "conduit of information"

Lawyers for the two accused said they regretted the 24-year-old's death, but they had been facilitating a friend, and acting as a "conduit of information".

Defence barrister, Patrick Marrinan suggested the taking of cocaine would not have been unknown to Katy French and that a former partner had told Gardai she was a "two day on, one day off cocaine abuser".

He said the two accused were not profiteering or invovled in a large scale supply network. "These people were friends, no harm was intended by anybody on this particular evening".

Ducie and Corcoran were given suspended sentences after the Judge said he could not consider charges of failing to get medical assistance, which were dropped last year.

Outside Court Katy's sister - Jill - said the family still has questions about how the 24-year-old died.

She told reporters the amount of cocaine found in the late model's system was 0.1%t of the amount considered to be fatal.

The French family criticised media coverage of the death saying she became a 'poster girl' for drugs.
