Today
Showers will become more widespread. They will be wintry in the north and over high hills and mountains. Moderate to fresh westerly winds will veer northwesterly and increase fresh to strong making it feel very cold.
Temperatures will continue to fall through the day as the winds turn and by afternoon will be 2 to 4 degrees over the northern half of the country, and between 5 and 7 degrees further south.
Tonight
Temperatures will fall to below freezing over hills and higher ground and will be near freezing in most other places, however in western coastal counties temperatures will fall to between plus 1 and plus 3 degrees. Wintry showers will continue but will become mostly isolated overnight.
Fresh to strong northwest to north winds will slowly ease a little.
