Mostly cloudy to begin today with showers or longer spells of rain in places.
Some brighter intervals will develop in the south this morning.
Brightening up elsewhere this afternoon but further showers or spells of rain will continue to occur, with some heavy falls, especially over the eastern half of the country.
Highs of 7C to 9C in light or moderate easterly breezes. Fresh at times on east and north coasts.
TONIGHT
Persistent and occasionally heavy rain near the east coast this evening and early tonight.
Elsewhere it will be largely dry at first with variable cloud and clear spells and the odd shower.
The rain in the east will spread westwards over the country overnight, producing spot flooding, mainly in eastern areas.
Lows of 1C to 5C with a risk of frost where clear spells prevail in the west and southwest.
Patches of mist and fog will form in the light to moderate mainly northerly winds, but winds will be easterly in direction near Irish Sea coasts.
