There have been calls to open a 'ghost train station' in west Dublin.

Kishogue Station - which is located between Clondalkin Fonthill and Adamstown stations on the Kildare Suburban route - has been lying idle since it was built seven years ago at a cost of €6.35 million.

Irish Rail say they have not got the funding from the National Transport Authority (NTA) to build an access road and car park for it.

The area around the station was supposed to be developed into housing and schools under the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone but that is on hold.

Local Fine Gael Councillor William Lavelle says the station has a pedestrian entrance that could be opened in the interim, and would be accessible for cyclists as well as pedestrians. He points out that the 151 Dublin Bus route passes by the entrance.

Cllr Lavelle is calling on all sides to open the station before the Phoenix Park tunnel opens to commuter traffic next year:
