Homelessness campaigner Fr Peter McVerry, says the Department of Social Protection is creating homelessness by not increasing rent allowance rates.
The head of the Peter McVerry Trust says government departments need to work together to tackle the growing homelessness problem.
It comes as the Sunday Times reports the number of homeless people has increased since an action plan was announced by the Environment Minister last December.
A homelessness summit, as well as a €25m plan was announced by Minister Alan Kelly, following public outcry over the death of homeless man Jonathan Corrie just yards from Leinster House.
