A man has been arrested after four guns were seized in Co Monaghan.

The find was made in Lisanisk at Carrickmacross earlier on Wednesday.

A Monaghan Roads Policing Unit carrying out speed checks on the N2 stopped a car.

A road side drugs test was carried out on the driver.

In a follow up search of the car, four loaded pistols with ammunition were sized.

The driver, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested and taken to Carrickmacross Garda station.

He is being held under section 30 Offences against The State Act.

Gardaí have said investigations are ongoing.
