Retired surgeon Dr. Michael Shine has appeared at Dublin District Court on a number of indecent assault charges.

The former consultant at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is facing a total of 25 charges from 16 males.

They claim to have been assaulted from the mid-1960s to the mid-80s.

The court heard the 80-year-old with an address on Wellington Road in Dublin replied ‘not guilty’ to 24 of the charges.

To one other he said ”not guilty, I was not in Ireland at the time”.

Michael Shine has been remanded on bail until October when the book of evidence will be served.
