Police in the US state of Florida have rescued a dog that was trapped in a septic tank.
Deputies from the St Lucie County Sheriff's Office were serving paperwork to a local house when they heard the sound of a dog whimpering.
During a search of a neighbouring vacant lot, they found the puppy who had fallen into a collapsed septic drain.

Police say they pulled the “scared and exhausted” dog out, comforted him and gave him several baths.
They also appealed and tried to find an owner in the local area.

But not finding anyone, the pooch was adopted by the deputy that rescued him.
He is now “enjoying a life in the lap of luxury”, according to the Sheriff's Office.
