More than 600 people are now thought to have been killed in flash floods and landslides following monsoon rains in Northern India.

Officials in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand have described the level of destruction as unprecedented.

Groups of tourists and pilgrims heading to a Hindi religious site have also been rescued by helicopter.
