Five units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were called to a major fire at a 10-bedroom house on the outskirts of the city last night.

The alarm was raised at around 7.20pm after a blaze broke out at the unoccupied mansion in Rathcoole.

Five pumps and a hydraulic platform were used to fight the fire, which took over five hours to bring under control.

Firefighters from Tallaght, Dolphin's Barn, Rathfarnam and Dun Laoghaire attended the scene.

The two-storey building, described as "derelict", is thought to be owned by NAMA. The fire brigade said it could not comment on whether the incident is being treated as suspicious.
