Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan says he is not able to make any further comment in relation to an incident in Roscommon last week, in which he elbowed a protester in the ribs.
John McDermott was part of a small group of demonstrators who were hoping to speak with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who was on a visit to the town on Friday.
However Deputy Feighan intervened and elbowed Mr McDermott in the ribs several times.
He has since apologised for the incident saying he over-reacted.
In a statement, Mr Feighan said, "Assessing the situation when (Enda Kenny) arrived, I formed the opinion that the Taoiseach was going to be confronted in an aggressive and physical manner. In hindsight, I misread the situation and overreacted in a tense situation."
A formal complaint has since been made to gardaí.
In a tweet this afternoon, Deputy Feighan said he is seeking a meeting with his solicitor and will not be able to make any further comment.
In reaction to recent events. I'm currently seeking a meeting with my solicitor.I will not be able to make any further comment !!Thank you
