Fianna Fáil says government efforts to get people off the dole has been an abysmal failure.

The Troika is now demanding greater efforts from the Department of Social Protection to assist the long-term unemployed.

A Cabinet sub-committee memo seen by the Irish Independent reportedly shows a key goal of reducing the amount of time people spend on the dole is now abandoned after increasing rather than reducing.

In its 10th review of the bailout, the Troika said that while the bailout conditions have all been met again and the economic signs are continuing to look positive, that challenges remain.

And the IMF says that economic recovery is still not well established and risks to debt sustainability remain.
