The first of 12 volumes of evidence has been served on former Anglo Irish Bank Chairman Sean FitzPatrick.

The 64-year-old has been sent forward for trial to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 12 charges. He is accused of making false, misleading or deceptive statements about his personal loans to the bank's auditors, Ernst and Young between 2002 and 2007. The amount on the final charge is €139.8 million.

He stood in the dock during today's court appearance wearing a navy coat, a navy suit, a blue shirt and a pink tie. He nodded when Judge Patricia McNamara told him his bail conditions would remain unchanged.

The former Anglo Chairman took a brief look inside volume 1 of the book of evidence when the lever arch folder was handed to him. Another 11 folders were packed in boxes in the court.

First Circuit Court appearance on March 22nd

Det Inspector Raymond Kavanagh of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation told the judge that the remaining files will be delivered to the defence. Sean FitzPatrick will make his first Circuit Court appearance on these charges on the 22nd March.

He is facing 16 other charges of giving unlawful financial assistance to 16 individuals for the purpose of buying shares in Anglo Irish Bank.

The same 16 allegations are also made against the bank's former Finance Director, Willie McAteer and the former Managing Director in Ireland, Patrick Whelan.
