Trump wishes New Year to all, including "many enemies"

Donald Trump has wished his "enemies" a Happy New Year in a barbed tweet posted just weeks before he takes office in the White House.

In the gloating New Year's Eve message, the President-elect wrote: "Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies.

UN endorses Russia-Turkey brokered ceasefire

The UN has endorsed a ceasefire deal for Syria that was brokered by Russia and Turkey.

The Security Council has also sanctioned plans for peace talks and is calling for rapid access for humanitarian aid.

The ceasefire - which began just over a day ago - has mostly been observed, apart from some fighting near Damascus.

Elderly woman rushed to hospital after flight diverted to Shannon Airport

An elderly woman has been rushed to University Hospital Limerick after a plane was diverted to Shannon Airport.

The woman became unwell on board a Thomson's flight from London Gatwick to Barbados this morning.

Munster edge a tight affair against Connacht

It was a wet, windy and cold night at the Sportsgrounds in Galway which, for the large part, had an effect on the type of game both sides were able to play. 

With the rain belting down sideways and the wind whipping at the players, the ball proved too difficult to hold on to with any consistency, so it was down to the kickers to provide much of the entertainment.
