Former Soviet agent attended Trump Jr meeting
A former Soviet counter-intelligence officer attended Donald Trump Jr’s meeting with a Russian lawyer in June 2016, according to reports.
Lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin – who holds dual Russian-American citizenship – confirmed he attended the meeting to the Associated Press.
Mr Akhmetshin is named in US Senate documents as a former “Soviet counter-intelligence officer.”
Irishwoman dies on charity trip in Kenya
An Irish woman has died during a charity fundraising trip to Africa.
The woman - aged in her thirties - is understood to be from the Cork/Waterford area
She was in Kenya with a charity group who travelled to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Members of her family were notified this afternoon.
Minister labels Murphy defamation claims "a bit rich"
A government minister has insisted claims that the Taoiseach defamed Solidarity TD Paul Murphy in the Dáil are "a bit rich."
The Dáil committee on procedures is now examining complaints about six TDs following on from a row over the Jobstown trial in Leinster House on Wednesday.
The committee has sought legal advice on whether Deputy Murphy abused Dáil privilege in claiming, on the house record, that numerous gardaí had “lied under oath” - adding that they may have engaged in “an agreement to commit perjury.”
Speaking to Newstalk Drive this afternoon, the Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty took a dim view of Deputy Murphy’s complaints.
Garda terrorist training exercise takes place in Dublin
The Garda Commissioner says that Ireland is a very safe place - but we have to be realistic.
Noirin O'Sullivan was speaking at a Garda terrorist training exercise in Dublin's Docklands earlier today.
Operation Sciath (which is Irish for 'shield') saw local gardaí joined by armed officers, with fire and ambulance services observing.
The simulated exercise, which got underway at 11am and his now finished, involved a hostage situation as well as several stabbings.
Tribunal hears social worker "horrified" at handling of McCabe Tusla file
A social worker has told the Disclosures Tribunal she was horrified when she studied a file involving false allegations against Sgt Maurice McCabe.
The Tribunal is examining if wrongful abuse allegations were used to try and discredit the garda whistleblower.
Social worker Clair Tobin is employed by the Child and Family Agency, Tusla - and in 2016 she was asked to examine the 'Ms D' file - which the Tribinal has heard contained a “litany of errors.”
