No forensic link found between Philip Cairns and Eamon Cooke
Gardaí have confirmed that no DNA evidence has been found to link the disappearance of Philip Cairns to convicted paedophile Eamon Cooke.
The 13-year-old schoolboy went missing from south Dublin in October 1986. His schoolbag was found dumped in an alley close to his Rathfarnham home six days later.
A garda spokesperson said forensic samples from the bag have not established a connection with “any named individual”.

Man arrested in connection with murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson
A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson.
Mr Donaldson, a former leading Sinn Féin member, was shot dead in the Doochary area of Donegal in April 2006, months after he was exposed as an MI5 agent.
The arrest comes a week after a man in his 70s was charged with withholding information from the garda investigation into the killing.

Gardaí searching for two suspects after shooting in Walkinstown
The man injured in a shooting in west Dublin earlier today remains in serious condition, according to gardaí.
The victim, who is in his 40s, was shot in his chest at a scrapyard on Greenhills Road in Walkinstown at around 11.35am.
Detectives are now searching for two suspects, who are thought to have driven away from the scene after the attack.

Solicitor: French authorities have not contacted Ian Bailey about 'criminal proceedings'
Ian Bailey has not been contacted by French authorities following reports that he is to face criminal proceedings in connection with the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, his solicitor has said.
The body of the French film producer was found outside her holiday home near Schull in West Cork in December 1996.
Mr Bailey was twice arrested by gardaí and questioned about the murder but has always denied involvement.

American woman killed in London stabbing was due to return to US today
The woman killed in a mass stabbing in London's Russell Square last night has been named as American citizen Darlene Horton.
She and her husband were in London for a summer course and were due to return to the US today.
The 19-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder following the knife attack, a Norwegian national who is believed to suffer from mental health problems, remains in custody.
