PSNI appeal for information and calm after loyalist murder in Belfast

Police in Northern Ireland have appealed for information following the murder of prominent loyalist John Boreland in north Belfast last night.

They have also called for calm in the local community, and said there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.

Mr Boreland was known to police, and had been warned about his safety within the past few months.

Twelve closure orders served on food businesses in July

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued twelve closure orders and one prohibition order on food businesses during the month of July.

Five orders were served under the FSAI Act, while the remainder came under EC regulations.

One prohibition order was served, under EC regulations, to Kearney's Restaurant in Tallow Co. Waterford.

Paddy Barnes has cited the difficulties of cutting weight down to light flyweight after his defeat in his Rio 2016 opening fight.

The bronze medalist from 2008 and 2012 lost to Samuel Carmona Heredia by split decision, with two judges giving it to the Spaniard by a score of 29-28, and the last one giving it to Barnes by the same margin.

Builders refuse to work with Clerys owners until they meet former staff

Building restoration specialists Lambstongue have refused to work on the redevelopment of the Clerys building on O'Connell St in central Dublin - if it will not meet with 460 workers whose jobs were lost when the department store closed.

It closed without warning when the shop was bought by the Natrium consortium. The group has since applied to Dublin City Council for planning permission to redevelop the iconic building.
