Four young men who died in Donegal car crash are laid to rest

he funerals of four young men killed in a tragic accident in Co Donegal have heard how the friends were taken in the prime of life.

They lost their lives when the car they were travelling in left the road outside Gortahork on Sunday night.

"He had a good soul, who would help anyone in any way that he could" - That is Fr Brian Ferry described Micháel Roarty, as he reflected on the life of a young man that has been taken too soon.

Tipperary murder trial: Witness says she is telling "the whole truth"

Patrick Quirke's murder trial has heard it will be alleged that his ex-lover asked someone if gardaí would be able to tell if there was a body in the boot.

Mr Quirke from Breanshamore, Co Tipperary denies murdering Mary Lowry's boyfriend Bobby Ryan, whose remains were found on her farm in 2013.

Today was Mary Lowry's second day being cross-examined by Bernard Condon - Patrick Quirke's barrister.

Flu season to continue for 'at least six weeks', HPSC says

Influenza will continue to circulate around the country "for at least the next six weeks".

That is according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), whose figures show a drop in the most recent number of cases.

The HPSC has said overall influenza activity decreased slightly here in the past week.

Met Éireann's status yellow warning for snow and ice has been extended until Sunday, as cold weather continues across the country.

Temperatures plunged to as low as -4C in parts of the country overnight.

Met Éireann has warned that temperatures could fall as low as -6C tonight with snow accumulating on lower ground.

Chris O'Dowd to receive Oscar Wilde Award in Los Angeles

Irish actor Chris O'Dowd is to be this year's recipient of the Oscar Wilde Award in the US.

He will be honoured by the US-Ireland Alliance at the 14th annual awards in Santa Monica next month.

He will join fellow honourees Glenn Close and Aidan Gillen, along with host JJ Abrams.
