Coronavirus: No further deaths in Ireland amid warning over new clusters

There have been no further deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Ireland.

The latest figures also show there are 24 new confirmed cases here.

It brings the total to 1,735 deaths and 22,462 cases.

'Huge anger, huge annoyance' over no minister from the west

An Independent TD says there huge anger and annoyance that there is no senior Cabinet minister from the west.

It comes after Fianna Fáil's deputy leader Dara Calleary said he was angry at not being given a senior ministry.

Instead Taoiseach Micheál Martin appointed him as Government Chief Whip, who will sit at Cabinet without a vote.

White paper on replacing direct provision to be drafted by end of year

A white paper on replacing direct provision will be drafted by the end of the year, according to the Minister for Integration Roderic O'Gorman.

The Cabinet met on Monday afternoon to discuss COVID-19 and the multi-billion euro stimulus package planned for the economy.

Ministers also met their department officials as work begins after their appointments on Saturday.

Newstalk to suspend advertising on Facebook platforms

Communicorp Media - which operates Newstalk, Today FM, OTB Sports, 98FM and SPIN - is to suspend all paid advertising for its brands on Facebook platforms for the month of July.

It is in support of the “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign.

The suspension is in solidarity with the growing number of global and domestic advertisers taking a stand against the failure of Facebook to control the publication of hateful and misleading content on its platforms.

Green Party Councillor Hazel Chu elected as Dublin's new Lord Mayor

Councillor Hazel Chu of The Green Party has been elected the 352nd Lord Mayor of Dublin.

The vote took place at Dublin City Council’s annual meeting in the Round Room of the Mansion House on Monday night.

She is the ninth woman to hold the post.
