Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen to testify before US Oversight Committee

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer to US President Donald Trump, has agreed to testify before an investigative committee there next month.

He was sentenced to three years in prison last month for crimes including tax evasion, lying to Congress and arranging illicit payments to silence women who threatened Mr Trump's presidential campaign in 2016.

However he will not begin his sentence until March 6th.

Psychiatric nurses announce plans for three days of strikes next month

The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) has announced an 'escalating campaign' of industrial action including three days of planned strikes.

Members of the PNA last month voted 95% in favour of taking action.

It comes amid a dispute over the recruitment and retention crisis in the health service.

Man appears in court charged with murder of his mother in Ardee

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother in County Louth.

32-year-old Tomasz Krzysztof Piortrowski of Cherrybrook, Ardee is accused of the murder of 57-year-old Elzbieta Piortrowska of Clonmore, Ardee at her home on Tuesday.

Mr Krzysztof Piortrowski made no reply when the charges against him were read out at Drogheda District Court this morning.

Ireland ranked sixth best democracy in the world

Ireland has been ranked as the sixth best democracy in the world.

A study by the Economist Intelligence Unit has put Norway, Iceland and Sweden in the top three.

This is followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Canada (who is joint sixth with Ireland) and Finland.

A children's song from South Korea, already a viral internet sensation, has entered the music charts in the US.

'Baby Shark' from Pinkfong is in the Billboard charts at number 32, as of Thursday.

It currently sits at number 22 in the official Irish chart, compiled by IRMA, for the week ending January 4th.
