Met Éireann has two Status Yellow rainfall warnings in place for today and overnight.

The first warning covers Cork and Waterford with possible rainfall amounts of up to 40 millimetres

The second is valid for Leinster from 6pm this evening.With risk of thundery downpours through the overnight period and in to tomorrow.

The swim route in today's Ironman in East Cork has been cancelled due to today's bad weather.

It was due to be Ireland's first-ever full-length ironman course.

2,300 participants were completing a full marathon and a 180 kilometre cycling course in the altered race.

Sergeant Adrian Lomasney from Midleton Garda Station says road closures are in place and has this advice for drivers.

A competitor has been killed in the Donegal International Rally.

It happened at 12:30 this afternoon on Super Stage 15 on the Fanad Head Loop.

The first three stages have been cancelled.

Police say a suspicious package was reported on the Wattlebridge Road with the route currently closed.

They are appealing for anyone with information to contact them or Crimestoppers.
