Top officials in Brussels have been give an advance copy of the Budget for approval.

According to the Irish Times, talks on the headline measures including the scale of cuts to be imposed on October 15th are taking place with EU authorities.

The paper says that top-level Irish officials have to Brussels to discuss the plan with EU counterparts who work for economics commissioner Olli Rehn.

The two groups reporedly met yesterday and are due to meet again today,

Many of the details have not yet been seen by the full cabinet.

Newstalk business editor Ian Guider says the EU is more concerned with the headline figures rather than the individual cuts to be imposed.

The Finance Minister on Friday refused to give any indication of how much room to manoeuvre the government has on the Budget.

Michael Noonan has ruled out a full €3.1 billion of adjustments but will not say how much lower he can go.

The Minister is insistent that Ireland still has to meet its Troika targets but how we do so is still undecided.

While the Social Protection Minister said she expects an easing of the pressure for budget cuts on her Department now the correction will be less than originally planned.

Joan Burton thinks her budget cut will be eased.
