Kidnappings, burglaries and fraud offences are all up according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

However all other crimes fell ion the same period which is something the Justice Minister has welcomed.

The CSO measured the 12-month period to the end of the 2nd quarter of the year in their review.

It showed burglaries have increased by 10%, fraud by 8% and kidnappings grew by just under 8%.

All of the other offences measured in the crime stats fell.

And there were notable decreases in the number of murders, assaults, and harassments.

These decreased by almost 10% with weapons offences down by 15%.

Meanwhile public order offences fell by 13%.

In a statement released today Justice Minister Alan Shatter welcomed the decrease in 11 of the 14 crime groups measured.

He did however express concern about the rise in property-related offences like burglary.

Still the Minister says while there is an increase to be seen in 12-month figures for that area burglaries actually fell in the most recent quarter by nearly 25%.
