Eight migrants who were discovered hiding on a cargo ship yesterday have been deported.
Crew members found the eight men on a bulk cargo ship travelling from France to Ireland yesterday.
All the men - who are believed to be Eastern European - were said to be in good health following their arrival at Belview Port in Waterford.
Today, gardaí said the men have now been deported to the last country of origination - France.
In a statement, the force said: "Following an assessment of their immigration status carried out during the day by Garda Immigration Officers attached to Waterford Garda Station assisted by the Garda National Immigration Bureau all 8 males were refused 'leave to land' in this jurisdiction.
"All eight males were deported, under Garda escort, on a ferry destined for Cherbourg which departed from Rosslare at 8:30pm."
