The Government has invited a representative from the Dunnes Stores' anti-apartheid strikers group to join the President and the Tánaiste at Nelson Mandela's memorial service in South Africa. The event takes place at Johannesburg's football stadium on Tuesday.
In 1984, 11 cashiers at Dunnes Stores on Henry Street in Dublin refused to handle any goods imported from South Africa in protest against the apartheid regime. Their strike continued for almost three years.
Thousands of delegates from all over the world have been invited to attend the event - and invitations are limited - therefore only one of the workers is invited.
