A Dublin man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity of the murder of his neighbour and attempted murder of her daughter in March 2014.

James Redmond from the Killinarden estate in Tallaght was having a psychotic episode when he went into their house armed with a shotgun.

66-year-old Mary Dargan died from her injuries while her daughter Karina, who was shot in the head, survived the attack.

During the trial the jury was told that Mr Redmond believed he could hear members of the Dargan family chanting through the wall of his house, calling him a paedophile and insulting his wife and daughter.

He’ll now be assessed in the Central Mental Hospital before the court is advised of the best course of action.
