A Dublin man has failed in an appeal to have his five year sentence shortened for a foiled armed raid on a building society in Wicklow.

Gerard Grey with a former address at Bracken Wood Drive in Balbriggan was jailed for the attempted robbery at EBS Greystones in July 2010.

The court heard he vaulted over the counter, put a gun to the head of a cashier, demanded money and then fled in a car which he crashed while being chased by gardaí.

The Court of Appeal rejected his lawyers claims that there was an unfair disparity between his sentence and the four years imposed on his co-accused - who played a lesser role in the raid.
