A Dublin man, 22, is to be sentenced later today for killing journalist Eugene Moloney with a single blow to the neck.
Gary Burch of Kennington Close, Templeogue pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr. Moloney, 55, on Camden Street on June 24th last year.
CCTV footage from Camden Street shows Gary Burch doing a celebratory dance after landing the fatal punch that killed journalist Eugene Moloney.
The trainee mechanic later told gardaí it was a ‘moment of craziness’ and he said he didn't try to help the victim as he lay on the ground, because he didn't realise how seriously he had been injured.
The attack happened at around 4am as Eugene Moloney walked home from a friend’s stag night in town.
He was having words with another young man, who may have pushed him when Gary Burch punched him in the neck.
His brother Sean Moloney has called the journalist’s violent death ‘senseless and unnecessary’.
Gary Burch has no previous convictions - he will be sentenced today.
