A man has been arrested after a garda was assaulted with a bottle in north Dublin early this morning.

Officers were called to the scene of a car fire at New Campbell's Bridge in Cabra at around 5.30am.

When they arrived, a male officer was attacked by a man with a bottle.

He was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he received a number of stitches to his leg.

The garda has since been discharged.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is being held at Finglas garda station.
