A man (48) has appeared in court charged over a stabbing in Dublin's south inner-city yesterday morning.
Rose Kenny (46) was attacked at the School Street flats as she left for work at a nearby community centre.
Gardaí say she remains in intensive care at St James's Hospital, but that her condition is stable.
Her alleged attacker, Denis Leahy of no fixed abode, appeared in Court 4 of the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning - wearing a red t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and runners.
Detective Garda Richard Kelly gave evidence that Mr Leahy was arrested at 9am this morning and brought to Kevin Street garda station, where he was charged with assault causing serious harm.
He said the accused had nothing to say to the charge after he was cautioned.
An application for legal aid was put on hold when the court heard Mr Leahy does not know his PPS number, as he returned to Ireland a couple of weeks ago having lived abroad for the past eight or nine years.
There was no application for bail and Judge Patricia McNamara remanded him in custody for a week, when his case will be dealt with via videolink from Cloverhill Prison.
'It's a serious charge,' she said. Assault causing serious harm can carry a life sentence.
