Eoghan Corry, travel commentator and owner of TravelExtra.ie joined The Hard Shoulder with Kieran Cuddihy to talk about this new easing on liquid restrictions.
Dublin Airport liquids change
“We can now leave our liquids in our bag," Mr.Corry said.
“Everything up to two litres can be put in your bag, that covers all your wine and whiskey bottles, even the large coke bottles don't go beyond two litres."
But what has suddenly changed to lead to this relaxation on liquid allowances?
“Somebody picked it up in the security scheme worldwide. What happened in July - Germany, Netherlands and some English and Scottish airports all relaxed it.
“But America was still not happy. The US Home Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, was slower to give the OK - obviously, the whole world has to jump on this together so it doesn’t lead to problems on the other side [of your destination]”.
Advances in this area have been made over the last while in some Irish airports that has led to the smooth transition of these new rules.
“Internationally, there has been progress. All of Terminal 2 had the new scanners, and only half of Terminal 1 had it, but now all of Terminal 1 has it” says Mr Corry.
“All [Irish airports] are good to go with the new liquid rules apart from Cork and Belfast”, but Mr Corry believes they shall soon follow suit.
These new rules will positively impact the efficiency of going through security and the airport by reducing queue times and making security more accessible to all.
“The frequency of passengers that you can get through in a minute will now go from six down to 1.5.
“It’s all helping to make the airport experience a little less stressful”, he says.
