Hurricane strength winds battered the country overnight - leaving thousands of people without power this morning.

About 1,500 homes across the country are still without power and ESB Networks says Drogheda is the worst affected area.

Spokesperson Bevin Cody says most customers should have their power restored by the end of the day.
