The Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe has denied reports that fewer than half of drink-drivers end up being prosecuted.
Mr Donohoe says the actual conviction rate is 86% - and not as low as 40%, as was claimed in one newspaper.
A report in the Irish Times last month said only 40% of summonses for drink-driving led to convictions.
The report also claimed the rate for the first five months of 2015 stood at just 28%.
It said that Kerry courts had the lowest conviction rate at 28%, while Offaly had the highest at 68%.
But in the Dáil, Minister Donohoe said the figures were seriously misleading.
