A ‘teenage youth’ is among the three people who have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Drimnagh.

It happened at 12.15am when Gardaí received a number of calls in relation to ‘shots being fired’ on Knocknarea Road, Drimnagh, in Dublin 12.

On arrival, a male in his early 20s was discovered with gunshot wounds.

Despite first aid attempts by Gardaí and paramedics from the Dublin Fire Brigade, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two vehicles, a black Mercedes Benz and a Volkswagen Gold, were also discovered at the scene and appeared to have been in a collision.

Gardaí soon became aware that a potential explosive device had been discovered in the Knocknarea Court housing estate and alerted the Army Explosive Ordnance Explosive (EOD) team.

The device was made safe, removed from the scene, and will be subject to further technical exam.

Shortly after reports of the shooting, a Garda Regional Armed Support Unit encountered three men on the Slievebloom Road, one a ‘teenage youth’ and the other two aged in their 20s.

They were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and are being held at Garda stations in the Dublin region.

Scene

The deceased’s body remains at the scene on the Knocknarea road which is still closed off to allow for a technical exam.

Gardaí say a number of vehicles on the road were damaged during the incident and have identified one, a silver Ford Focus, as being of interest to the investigation.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been set up at Sundrive Road Garda Station.

The office of the State Pathologist and the Coroner have been notified.

Gardaí are asking for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

They are particularly looking for those with dashcam footage or CCTV from the Knocknarea Road area between 11.30pm last night and 12.30am this morning to contact them.
