66 drivers have been disqualified from driving more than once after accumulating over 12 penalty points, according to figures seen by Newstalk Lunchtime.
A total of 191 drivers were banned after reaching the 12 point limit in 2013 - with the total since the introduction of the points system now at over 2,000.
Reacting to the figures, Transport Minister Leo Varadkar says 'penalty points alone' are not enough to deter motorists from dangerous driving - and that the courts can deliver longer bans if they feel they are necessary.
