A solicitor representing singer Dolores O'Riordan has asked a judge to strike out a case against her saying she was not in her right mind at the time.

Dramatic evidence has been heard at Ennis District Court about her arrest and detention off an Aer Lingus flight at Shannon Airport in November of last year.

The former Cranberries frontwoman admits assaulting two airport policemen and a garda, and obstructing a garda in the course of his duty, following an air rage incident.

"Do you know who I am, you can't arrest me - I'm an icon - I pay your wages" - the words of Dolores O'Riordan to Aer Lingus Cabin crew staff, gardaí and airport police as she arrested off a plane at Shannon Airport last year.

The singer has admitted kicking, hitting and spitting at a garda and two Shannon Airport police officers, after earlier acting in an aggressive and irrational manner onboard the plane.

The court heard the mother of three freed herself from handcuffs while in the back of a garda patrol car and ran back towards the plane, where she headbutted a garda and falsely claimed he sexually assaulted her.

Medial reports stated Ms O'Riordan was in a manic mental state following the breakdown of her marriage and subsequent separation from her children - brought on by a diagnosed bipolar condition.

Ms O'Riordan's solicitor said she was not in her right mind at the time and asked the court not to impose a conviction.

The court adjourned the matter for sentencing to next year to consider all of the evidence.
