DJ Neil Fox exploited his fame to sexually abuse fans as young as 15 as well as radio station colleagues, a jury in the UK has been told.

One of his alleged victims says she was 15 when he took her to an underground car park at Capital Radio in Euston, London, in 1988, and made her perform a sex act while he touched her.

Other girls allege that at public events, the radio celebrity kissed them, forcing his tongue into their mouths.

The 54-year-old, who was a judge on Pop Idol between 2001 and 2003 alongside Simon Cowell, denies abusing three girls under 16 between 1988 and 1996.

The DJ, known to his listeners as Dr Fox, is facing another four allegations of indecent assault relating to females over 16.

Prosecutor John Price QC told Westminster Magistrates' Court that Fox "exploited the privilege conferred upon him by his fame to inflict his sexual actions upon women without regard either for their wishes or their age".

He added: "He also inflicted himself upon adolescent girls - in other words, children."

The court heard one of Fox's alleged teenage victims was a fan of his, and would visit his flat.

Mr Price added: "Her allegation is conspicuous for its seriousness.

"She was one of a number of young girls, usually ages 14 or 15, who made a habit of waiting outside the premises of Capital Radio in the middle of the late 1980s.

"They used to congregate there in the hope of seeing some of the DJs who worked within the building, or sometimes some of the members of bands who would visit it.

"She describes how on one occasion Mr Fox asked her to help him carry his records to the underground car park."

Alone and out of sight, Fox allegedly kissed her. On a second occasion he asked her to accompany him and then molested her, the jury heard.

Mr Price said: "She would regularly go to his flat, intimacy would occur between them."

During his police interview, Fox, from Fulham, southwest London, admitted the girl used to visit him, but denied anything sexual took place, saying they drank tea.

It is also alleged that at a motor show in Norman Park, Bromley, in 1991, Fox forced his hand up a 14-year-old girl's skirt while giving her a kiss.

The three adult complainants came into contact with Fox through work at radio stations, spanning a period of 11 years, it is claimed.

"This demonstrated a long-standing propensity on behalf of Mr Fox to impose himself sexually on young adult women," said Mr Price.

He said Fox's status "made him a difficult man to accuse".

Before the trial began, the prosecution announced it would not be pursuing five counts of indecent assault Fox had been charged with.

The trial continues.
