The Dáil's disciplinary committee has found Independent TD Catherine Murphy not guilty of abusing Dáil privilege.

The committee on Procedures and Privileges has found Deputy Murphy had not abused privilege when she made allegations about Denis O'Brien's banking arrangements with IBRC two weeks ago.

The committee met in private this evening following a complaint from Mr O'Brien, who claimed the comments were a deliberate breach of a court injunction which stopped media outlets from publishing those details.

This evening the CPP said Deputy Murphy's comments had not broken any Dáil rules, but it could not consider whether she had breached the injunction as this was a matter for the courts.

You can watch a video of Deputy Murphy's comments below. The comments have been contested by Denis O'Brien and former IBRC chairman Alan Dukes.

It comes after the Dáil voted 119-20 this evening in favour of setting up the IBRC inquiry, with Fianna Fáil and most independents backing the government, and Sinn Féin opposing.

Enda Kenny has said the new Commission of Investigation into IBRC will not be affected by Fine Gael's association with Denis O'Brien.
