Revenue detector dog Kelly has sniffed out just over one million smuggled cigarettes on their way into Dublin Port.

The unstamped cigarettes were branded Marlboro and have a retail value of almost €500,000.

Revenue said the haul represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €422,000.

The cigarettes were discovered on freight making its way into Dublin from Rotterdam using Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner – and Kelly’s nimble nose.

The Revenue investigation into the seizure is ongoing.
