A number of rail services in and out of Dublin City will be affected this weekend while Iarnród Éireann carries out "essential" maintenance works at Shaw St. Bridge.

All DART services are suspended between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock while Tara St and Pearse St Stations will be closed entirely until Monday morning.

Dublin Connolly to Rosslare inter-city services will include bus transfers between Dublin Connolly and Bray.

Barry Kenny of Iarnród Éireann has advised passengers to check the company website and app to keep up to date on DARTs temporary schedule.

He told Newstalk that the timing of the works, while inconvenient for some, was chosen as it is one of the quieter weekends in the city this summer.

"We had a very busy summer with events, with matches, with concerts."

This was one of the very few weekends where we don't have a very large-scale event on in the city, which is why the works are scheduled for this weekend", he said.

"Obviously, at any time, works will impact on customers and we do regret that, but it is essential to maintain networks."
