They pertain to running an organised crime gang and also are connected to the murder of Eddie Hutch, Gerry the Monk Hutch's brother, as part of the so-called Kinahan-Hutch feud

Mr Kinahan is now awaiting his extradition and to go before the courts.

Previous revelations in the Irish Independent showed that the Kinahans were due to leave Dubai in favour of Russia imminently.

“[The United Arab Emirates] were the last porthole in the world for the Kinahans.”

Speaking on The Hard Shoulder Friday, crime journalist and author Paul Reynolds said his arrest was a “huge though not unexpected” development.

“It felt like it was going to go on forever but it is a huge victory for An Garda Síochána, the Department of Justice and the Irish government”, he told Newstalk.

He said Mr Kinahan, who was at the very apex of the international organised criminal cartel” was likely to contest his extradition strongly as he had “nothing to lose.”

There are slight differences between this case and maybe Sean McGovern's in that a lot of the evidence is circumstantial against them”, he explained.

“If he has the friends that we fear he has in power in Dubai, where they've paid billions in graft and bribes, we'd see the proof of the pudding in that if the courts over there decide not to extradite him here.

“It doesn't matter who he's paid, what he has paid in connection to the power classes in the United Arab Emirates, Daniel Kinahan’s days of hiding from justice are ended.”

Mr Reynolds said it remains unknown when Daniel Kinahan could be expected to return on Irish soil.
