A woman in her 70s has died following a crash between a bike and a car in Monaghan. 

The crash happened on Cootehill Road, close to Monaghan town, today at roughly 1.20pm. 

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to Monaghan Hospital where a postmortem will take place. 

The road is currently closed for an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. 

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage.
