Crimestoppers is launching an appeal for information relating to a hit-and-run in Monaghan nearly 2 years ago that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man.

Fintan Traynor was killed after he was struck by a car as he walked home to Lemgare Road in the early hours of Sunday June 26th 2011.

He had taken a taxi as far as his uncle's house which was around 3 kilometres from his own house, after attending a family reunion.

He set off to walk the rest of the way and CCTV footage from the home of a neighbour shows a figure passing at 2.41am. Early on Sunday morning Fintan's uncle came across his body on the road.

Anyone with information is being asked to come forward. In particular Gardai are looking to speak to anyone who may have noticed damage to the car of a person known to them around the time of the incident.

Launching the appeal, Superintendent Noel Cunningham said "Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation".

Callers from the Republic of Ireland can call Crimestoppers on 1800-25-00-25 and from Northern Ireland on 0800-555-111.
