The European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton has signalled she could still support the abortion legislation if more resources were put in place for suicidal women.
In an interview on national radio the Dublin Bay-South Deputy says she still cannot give a definitive answer on how she will vote.
Speaking on RTÉ radio Deputy Creighton insisted she has to be and will be guided by her conscience on this legislation. The European Affairs Minister is opposed to the suicide clause in the laws and insisted she will not hide behind any whip or any individual.
Asked directly if she could not vote for the legislation if the provisions around suicide remain Minister Creighton appeared to leave the door open.
She said if she felt there was a genuine attempt to improve resources and to put in place a clear pathway for the treatment of women she would feel more comfortable, but would still find it very difficult.
She said she cannot give a definitive answer as of now but she would certainly feel more assured for the women of Ireland if that were the case.
