Counting is continuing in the two by-elections to fill seats in the Dáil.

Fianna Fáil has topped the poll in the Roscommon South Leitrim by-election, but looks set to lose the seat to Independent Michael Fitzmaurice.

Meanwhile a knife-edge finish is in store in Dublin South West where Sinn Féin's Cathal King topped the poll but could lose the seat to the Anti-Austerity Alliance.

Newstalk's Páraic Gallagher has the latest on the count (you can follow his live updates at newstalk.com/byelection):

The counts in Dublin South West and Roscommon South Leitrim got underway at 9am.

Four counts have been completed in Dublin South West and around 550 votes separates Sinn Fein’s Cathal King and Paul Murphy from the Anti-Austerity Alliance.

Mr King spoke to Newstalk about the results so far:

Murphy will need to pick up a substantial number of transfers to close the gap and remain in with a shout. But as transfers remain spread out at this stage it has made this by-election difficult to call.

Meanwhile the second count has been completed in Roscommon South Leitrim, where another unexpected fight between two candidates has emerged.

Fianna Fáil's Ivan Connaughton - the man many had predicted would almost run away with the seat - faces a major battle with the Independent candidate Michael Fitzmaurice.
