A further 25 coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in the Republic.

However, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has confirmed that the actual number of cases here is in fact 8,089.

That's due to the results of some older tests which were sent to German labs now being reported back to health officials here.

Dr Holohan said the number from the German labs has been reported separately to not give the impression they were new cases happening in Ireland today.

Of today's figures, 23 of the deaths happened in the east of the country, and two in the west.

The median age of today's reported deaths was 85, and 16 of those who died were reported to have had underlying health conditions.

Latest data on the cases of coronavirus cases here as of midnight on Wednesday shows that 224 patients had been admitted to ICU.

The Government today announced that the current restrictions on movement will be extended for another three weeks until May 5th.

The Leaving Cert exams have also now been postponed until late July or August as a result of the current coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, 10 more people have died in the North after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

It brings the death toll there to 92, and the total on the island of Ireland to 380 people.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Northern Ireland has risen to 1,589 after 112 more positive tests were confirmed.
